Antonello Coletta, the head of Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship programme, has spoken openly about the possibility of replacing Fred Vasseur as Team Principal of the Scuderia in Formula 1. For long periods during the 2025 season, this topic generated significant debate within the Ferrari environment. The idea of seeing Coletta step into Fred Vasseur’s role at the helm of Ferrari’s F1 project became a recurring subject of discussion, particularly during moments of difficulty for the team.
Those rumours were eventually put to rest by the contract renewal signed by the former Alfa Romeo team boss in recent months, with Ferrari chairman John Elkann repeatedly confirming his confidence in the current management structure. Despite this, questions surrounding Antonello Coletta’s future and a potential move to Formula 1 continued to surface.
Antonello Coletta responds on a possible promotion within Ferrari
Speaking during the Golden Helmets and ACI Steering Wheels awards ceremony at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Antonello Coletta addressed once again the idea of a possible “promotion” to Formula 1. “Everyone follows their own path and their own journey. Then news comes out, and that is also normal. We all work within the same company, and I don’t see anything strange in these links that have emerged over the months, especially during difficult periods,” Antonello Coletta explained.
He also underlined the importance of the current phase for Ferrari in Formula 1, given the regulatory changes on the horizon. “I believe Formula 1 is at a very important moment considering the changes that will come with the new regulations. Let’s wait to see the new car and place our trust in the people who are there. We all work in great harmony, and I have an excellent relationship with Vasseur. I don’t think there is a change coming soon, either for me or for him. We remain focused on our work and try to achieve our objectives,” said Ferrari’s endurance director.
After the many successes achieved in 2025, culminating in winning the WEC world championship, Antonello Coletta’s goal remains firmly focused on repeating those results in a new season that is now rapidly approaching. For the Ferrari endurance boss, continuity and concentration remain the key priorities, both in WEC and within the broader structure of the Maranello-based manufacturer.
With the Scuderia’s endurance program thriving under Antonello Coletta’s leadership—delivering consistent wins at Le Mans and beyond—these reassurances help quell any lingering doubts about leadership stability. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Ferrari prepares for the new era, hoping Fred Vasseur can translate that WEC momentum into grand prix success on the F1 grid.
