Kimi Antonelli honoured in Bologna and opens the door to Ferrari with an unexpected statement that delights Italian fans
During the traditional Autosprint Golden Helmets ceremony, held in Bologna, the spotlight was firmly on Italy’s young motorsport talents. Among those honoured were Kimi Antonelli and Leonardo Fornaroli, both coming off an outstanding season in the junior categories on the road to Formula 1. The event was not only a moment of celebration, however. The words spoken by Antonelli immediately caught the attention of fans, especially because of a far from trivial reference to Ferrari.
Antonelli’s unexpected words about Ferrari
Speaking to the media, the young Bologna-born driver did not close the door on a possible future in red, while at the same time reaffirming his full gratitude towards Mercedes. “Ferrari is a team with incredible greatness. Racing for Ferrari is beautiful, but I am very happy where I am and I am grateful for the opportunity Mercedes has given me,” Kimi Antonelli explained.
Measured words, yet full of meaning. Kimi Antonelli then clarified what his current objective is. “The dream at the moment is to win a world championship with them. Then in the future we’ll see, because in the end you should never say never.”
The message is clear. Kimi Antonelli is not planning to leave Mercedes, but at the same time he is not ruling anything out for the future. Ferrari remains a natural point of reference for any Italian driver, especially for those who grow up with the ambition of reaching Formula 1. The fact that Kimi Antonelli openly mentioned Maranello, describing it as a team of unique stature, confirms that the allure of the Prancing Horse remains strong even for the new generations.
The Bologna awards ceremony also highlighted the positive moment currently being experienced by Italian motorsport. Kimi Antonelli and Leonardo Fornaroli represent two different but complementary paths, both pointing towards the biggest stage of all: Formula 1.
For Kimi Antonelli, the present speaks German and carries the name Mercedes. The future, however, remains open. And among the possible scenarios, as he himself suggested, Ferrari is certainly not excluded.
