Zak Brown appeared radiant to the media after Norris secured pole position in the Spanish GP qualifiers, but he also sought to temper the excitement, considering that everyone, including Ferrari, is in the fight for victory. Despite his driver’s excellent performance, the McLaren CEO does not want to celebrate victory just yet on Saturday in Montmeló.
“I’m very happy for Lando’s lap, it was truly fantastic. The team put him on track at the best moment to secure this pole and he did an excellent job of setting the perfect lap. If Oscar hadn’t gone off in the third sector, he would have been much further ahead along with his teammate, but mistakes can happen to anyone,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Let’s not forget that Piastri is only in his second year, and when he pushes very hard, mistakes can happen. We don’t blame him at all, in fact. Our car is very good this weekend, so I’m sure tomorrow will be much better.”
“Tomorrow we will fight with Red Bull, Mercedes, but let’s not forget Ferrari. They are further back, but they will also have their chances to fight in this race. We are all very close, so the result is not guaranteed at all.” The English manager does not see Ferrari in trouble but perfectly in the running for victory in the Spanish race.
“Certainly, Piastri being behind will force us to adopt a different strategy, considering he will be only tenth. But we are very confident, and I think tomorrow will be a great race, fought and one to watch,” concluded the McLaren CEO.
