Ferrari has had a very difficult start to the season but is seeking redemption in Canada. Results have been slow to come and performances have been highly inconsistent. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have not found much continuity in their results. The most recent outings have been very positive for the Monegasque driver, who managed to score two excellent podiums in both Monaco and Barcelona. On Lewis Hamilton’s side, the situation is a bit more complicated. The seven-time world champion has not yet found the right confidence with the SF-25.
This weekend, F1 heads to Canada, to the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. Last year’s race, however, was not particularly fortunate for Ferrari, which suffered two retirements. This year, the Maranello team will be looking for a comeback.
In search of redemption
Former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer, speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, focused specifically on Ferrari’s 2024 Canadian GP: “They can’t do worse than last year, can they? That’s a good thing for them. It was as bad as it could get. Still, on paper, it’s a good track for Ferrari.”
According to Jolyon Palmer, there is a key characteristic of the Canadian track that could suit the SF-25: “The corners are essentially all low-speed, which is what allowed the car to work in Monaco. They don’t need to worry about any high-speed configurations.”
Jolyon Palmer also suggested that Lewis Hamilton could be an added weapon for Ferrari in Canada, given his track record there: “Again, obviously last year they flopped. They completely messed up their qualifying strategy. If you’re Ferrari now, you’re thinking this is as good a shot as any. Lewis Hamilton is also generally brilliant in Montreal.” The former driver added: “This could be a kind of redemption circuit for Lewis, I think.” – the former Formula 1 driver and current broadcaster and journalist concluded ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
