Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur pointed out that it would be a “mistake” to attempt to make comparisons between the on track performances of the Italian side’s Formula 1 drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The Monegasque has impressed last season especially in terms of qualifying, being able to capitalize on the one-lap speed of the F1-75 car. As a result, Charles Leclerc ended the year with nine pole positions. Yet when questioned if the Monegasque is in fact the best driver in Formula 1 over one lap, Frederic Vasseur explained that he had no intentions of drawing comparisons between drivers, especially between between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who will begin their third season together in Maranello with the goal of fighting for the 2023 Formula 1 world titles.
“It would be a mistake to try to start to do a comparison with the others on this point,” the new Scuderia Ferrari team principal said in a recent discussions with the Italian and international media – “We have Charles and I don’t want to make any comparison with Carlos or with drivers.” – the French manager added.
Frederic Vasseur, who has confirmed several times since taking over the role of team principal that no driver will be favoured over the other in the start of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, is confident Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz can work together to capitalize on their strengths and limit their weaknesses in the upcoming season:

“We have Charles and Carlos,” the former Alfa Romeo boss continued – “We have to work [with] them to try to end their weaknesses, if they have [any], and to understand where they are performing [well], where they are performing more than their teammate and to try just to do a better job together. I don’t want to make any comparisons.” – Frederic Vasseur concluded.
Scuderia Ferrari is now heading to Bahrain for three days of pre-season testing session at the Bahrain International Circuit, with track action scheduled to begin on Thursday morning.
