After a difficult couple of seasons for Scuderia Ferrari on the power unit, its engine for the current campaign is back among the strongest on the grid. The trouble is, it hasn’t been very reliable.
A litany of Ferrari failures, most recently Carlos Sainz’s fiery’ internal combustion engine failure while on target to take second place from Max Verstappen at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, have hit the Maranello team hard. And customer teams Alfa Romeo and Haas haven’t been immune from such problems either.
What’s more, Ferrari is ranked lowest with six retirements this season – two for Charles Leclerc and four for the unfortunate Carlos Sainz.
