Ted Kravitz highlights ongoing pressure on Fred Vasseur at Ferrari after candid Charles Leclerc disclosure. Ferrari faced a mixed weekend at the 2025 British Grand Prix.

Ferrari experienced another mixed and challenging weekend at the 2025 British Grand Prix, held at the iconic Silverstone Circuit, as the team once again failed to secure a much-needed podium finish that they and their passionate fans had been eagerly anticipating. Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion and Ferrari’s lead driver, came agonizingly close to ending his long wait for his first top-three Grand Prix finish since joining the prestigious Italian Scuderia. However, he ultimately fell short in a chaotic and unpredictable race that highlighted the erratic conditions and the highly competitive nature of the Silverstone event. The level of disorder during the race was clearly demonstrated when, halfway through the Grand Prix, the two drivers who were chasing down the leading McLaren team drivers were none other than Nico Hülkenberg and Lance Stroll, two competitors not generally expected to be battling for podium positions, which underscored how unusual and volatile the race had become.

While Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll eventually faded from contention due to pace and tyre issues, Nico Hülkenberg’s remarkable and determined performance earned widespread praise from across the paddock, including from reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, as the Sauber driver finally achieved his first Formula 1 podium after a lengthy and persistent career filled with challenges and near-misses.

Lewis Hamilton’s opportunity to challenge Hülkenberg for the final podium position was ultimately compromised by a costly and critical mistake following his last pit stop. Struggling to manage the soft compound tyres on a wet, slippery, and ever-changing track surface, Hamilton was unable to maintain the necessary pace, yet he still managed a significantly better race performance than his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who endured a far more disappointing and frustrating day throughout the entire Grand Prix weekend.

Charles Leclerc openly acknowledged that Lewis Hamilton was the sole positive takeaway for Scuderia Ferrari at Silverstone, especially after the team implemented a disastrous and questionable race strategy on Leclerc’s side of the garage. This poor decision-making was further compounded by Charles Leclerc’s collision with former Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz in the closing stages of the race, which ultimately dashed his hopes of a strong finish and left the Monegasque driver trailing near the back of the field.

Heading into the British Grand Prix weekend, Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur’s position within the historic Scuderia Ferrari team was already under intense scrutiny due to the team’s inconsistent and underwhelming performances so far during the 2025 Formula 1 season. Veteran and respected Formula 1 reporter and analyst Ted Kravitz shared his insights with fans and viewers, expressing that the French manager remains under considerable and ongoing pressure as the team prepares to approach the next race at the challenging Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

During his detailed commentary on his popular show, Ted’s Notebook, Kravitz analyzed Ferrari’s struggles at Silverstone and noted: “Charles Leclerc pitted for slick tyres on the formation lap, only to be forced to pit again on lap 12 to switch back to intermediates due to changing track conditions. Lewis Hamilton struggled during the first half of the race, was overtaken by Mercedes driver George Russell, but then fought back strongly, passing Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll to reclaim fourth place and closing in on Nico Hülkenberg. However, by the time Hamilton’s intermediate tyres wore out, he had to pit again for fresh intermediates. Hülkenberg also pitted for new intermediates, and it seemed Nico had an answer for everything Lewis could do today. Charles Leclerc was very unhappy with how things unfolded, and one could argue that the pressure on Fred Vasseur is still very much present heading into Spa, especially considering the questionable strategic decisions made on Leclerc’s side of the garage.”

As the 2025 Formula 1 season now reaches its crucial halfway mark, many teams across the grid are already looking ahead to the major and transformative regulation changes coming into effect in 2026. These new rules are expected to bring one of the most significant and far-reaching transformations in the history of Formula 1, impacting everything from car design to race strategy. Additionally, the strict enforcement of the cost cap means manufacturers must manage their development budgets more carefully, forcing teams to decide whether to focus primarily on developing their current season’s car or to invest heavily and strategically in next year’s regulations.

While some teams, such as Williams Racing, have already committed fully to their 2026 development programs, choosing to deprioritize their 2025 efforts, Ferrari has yet to shift its focus entirely away from this season. Instead, the Italian team is preparing a key and much-anticipated upgrade — a brand-new rear suspension system — which they hope will provide both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc with enhanced competitiveness, improved tyre management, and better overall performance in the races ahead.

For team principal Frédéric Vasseur, delivering consistent and improved results before the conclusion of the 2025 season could prove crucial for securing a contract extension with the legendary Scuderia Ferrari team. At present, the Italian outfit currently holds second place in the highly competitive Constructors’ Championship standings, but expectations remain sky-high among the team’s management, staff, and passionate global fanbase, and continuous progress is urgently demanded.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna addressed questions about Fred Vasseur’s future during the Silverstone race weekend while speaking candidly to Sky Sports Italia. He emphasized that the team’s cars are becoming more competitive as the season progresses and highlighted the vital importance of unity within the team environment. Vigna stated, “Teams grow by facing difficulties together and confronting them as one united unit. Unity is strength — that’s a fundamental value, and I can say that I feel it deeply here at Ferrari. I see it clearly here at Silverstone, and I have felt that spirit and determination quite strongly over these past few days.”

While Benedetto Vigna’s positive comments suggest confidence and cautious optimism regarding the direction Ferrari is heading under Frédéric Vasseur’s leadership, race results like Charles Leclerc’s at Silverstone serve as a stark reminder that the team cannot afford to repeat too many more poor performances if they want to maintain momentum and seriously challenge for race wins, podiums, and ultimately championship titles throughout the remainder of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
