In a heartfelt interview with British broadcaster Channel 4 during the 2025 British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton spoke passionately about his experience driving for Scuderia Ferrari and expressed full support for team principal Frederic Vasseur, praising both the mystique of the team and the leadership behind it.
Lewis Hamilton and the allure of the Prancing Horse
“Ferrari is something very, very special. Every time you put on the red race suit, walk into the garage, look at the car, and get behind the wheel—it’s always the same feeling,” said Lewis Hamilton, as he reflected on his new journey with the iconic Italian outfit. The British driver, who joined Scuderia Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season after a long and successful stint with Mercedes, emphasized the emotional weight of being part of a legendary team.
“There is something truly unique, a real aura around the cockpit when you step into it,” he continued. “You think of all the drivers who dreamed of driving this car and never got the chance—so to be here, living that dream, is a real privilege.”
Lewis Hamilton, who has long spoken of his admiration for the heritage of Ferrari, made it clear that wearing the famous red is not just about competition, but about being part of a legacy that transcends racing.
Backing Frederic Vasseur through transition
Amidst ongoing media speculation regarding the long-term future of team principal Frederic Vasseur—despite recent public backing from Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna—Lewis Hamilton made a strong statement of support for the Frenchman. “Fred is the one who brought me into this team, so I owe him a lot,” Hamilton stated, highlighting the trust and respect he has for Vasseur.
“When you enter a team from the outside, you immediately start to observe how big the organisation is and how the overall structure is set up,” he explained. “You arrive with a fresh perspective compared to those who have been inside the system for years. And that new perspective allows you to see very clearly both the strengths and the weaknesses.”
Lewis Hamilton then reiterated his belief in Fred Vasseur’s leadership: “I definitely believe Fred is the right man to lead us to the top. That’s why I’m working as hard as I can to support him and to help implement the many changes that are still needed within the team.”
As Ferrari continues its long-term rebuild with eyes on returning to championship-winning form, Lewis Hamilton’s words offered both reassurance to fans and a sense of purpose—signaling that he’s not only committed to driving the car but also to playing a central role in Ferrari’s revival.
