Lewis Hamilton makes brilliant start to jump from P6 to P3 at the Australian Grand Prix
The opening moments of the Australian Grand Prix delivered immediate excitement as Lewis Hamilton produced a superb launch from the third row of the grid. Starting in seventh position (sixth after Oscar Piastri crashed even before the start), the seven-time world champion reacted quickly when the lights went out and immediately began gaining ground on the cars ahead.
Lewis Hamilton’s strong getaway allowed him to carry significant speed into the first sequence of corners. Taking advantage of the tight pack at the start, the Ferrari driver spotted an opportunity and executed two decisive overtakes to move rapidly through the field.
Within the opening lap, Lewis Hamilton had already climbed three positions, passing both Arvid Lindblad and Isack Hadjar to secure third place. It was an aggressive yet controlled move that demonstrated the veteran driver’s racecraft and awareness in high-pressure situations.
A decisive opening lap
Race starts often define the early momentum of a Grand Prix, and Lewis Hamilton made sure to capitalize on the opportunity. His reaction time off the line was excellent, allowing him to position his car perfectly as the field approached the first braking zone.
By carrying strong momentum and choosing the right lines through the opening corners, Lewis Hamilton managed to outmaneuver both Lindblad and Hadjar. Moves like these require precise judgment, especially when the field is tightly packed and the margins for error are extremely small.
Early advantage for Ferrari
Hamilton’s rapid rise to third place immediately placed him in contention at the front of the race. With clean air ahead and fewer cars to fight through, Ferrari could begin focusing on race pace, tire strategy, and energy management rather than battling in midfield traffic.
