Lewis Hamilton capitalizes on rookie battle with stunning double overtake in Australia
The opening lap of the Australian Grand Prix delivered an early highlight as Lewis Hamilton executed a clever double overtake to move into third position. The Ferrari driver showed excellent race awareness, taking advantage of a heated battle between two young drivers ahead of him.
As the field completed the first lap of the race, Arvid Lindblad launched an aggressive move on Isack Hadjar. The two rookies went wheel-to-wheel while fighting for position, briefly slowing each other down as they navigated the corner sequence.
Lewis Hamilton, running just behind them, immediately recognized the opportunity. Carrying more momentum and choosing the perfect line, he slipped past both cars in one decisive move to climb into the top three before the end of Lap 1.
Experience makes the difference
Situations like this often highlight the value of experience in Formula 1. While Lindblad and Hadjar were focused on battling each other, Lewis Hamilton remained patient and positioned his Ferrari perfectly to exploit the moment.
By maintaining speed through the corner exit and committing to the overtake at exactly the right time, the seven-time world champion avoided getting stuck behind the fighting pair. Instead, he transformed their battle into a major gain for himself.
Ferrari gains early track position
Moving up to third place so early in the race was an important development for Ferrari. Track position remains one of the most valuable assets in Formula 1, particularly at circuits where overtaking later in the race can become more difficult.
