Heavy criticism is coming from Spain towards Ferrari, as many believe that the source of the Italian team’s ongoing issues lies within its 2025 driver line-up. According to several Spanish journalists, the combination of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc is not the ideal pairing to bring the Scuderia back to the top of Formula 1.
Spain turns against Ferrari: Sainz also involved
Beyond the chaos sparked by Ferrari President John Elkann’s recent statements, further instability is being fueled by several articles published by Marca, signed by Carlos Miquel. The Spanish journalist not only strongly criticized Elkann’s comments but also pointed out a striking pattern: every world champion who has joined Ferrari in the modern era has failed to win another title once wearing red. Among them, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, and now Lewis Hamilton.
The Spanish media describe the current Ferrari car as “a disastrous car.” According to their reports, the partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc is creating additional complications within the team. The reason, they argue, is that the seven-time world champion cannot match Carlos Sainz in “car development work that was also essential for Charles Leclerc.” The absence of the Spanish driver, therefore, is seen as one of the main reasons Ferrari is struggling to find solutions to its ongoing problems.
“If John Elkann wants a driver who doesn’t complain and focuses on driving, Sainz is perfect. The chemistry he had with Charles Leclerc worked many times in the past,” the article concludes. Despite this, Miquel admits that a return of Carlos Sainz to Maranello seems highly unlikely at this point.
