Lewis Hamilton’s Miami Grand Prix weekend with Ferrari drew attention not only on track but also off it, as tennis legend Serena Williams shared a touching message on social media reflecting on their long-standing friendship and mutual respect.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion finished seventh in the Sprint race at the Miami International Autodrome, before improving slightly in qualifying for Sunday’s Grand Prix, where he secured sixth place on the grid. While Ferrari’s overall pace still left them behind the leading trio, the Briton’s consistency across the weekend was one of the more encouraging elements for the Scuderia.
Serena Williams, who attended the Miami weekend from the Ferrari garage, posted about her experience meeting the Ferrari drivers and revisited her first encounter with Lewis Hamilton, describing how their connection began years ago during the early stages of both of their careers at the top of their respective sports.
“I had fun hanging out with the Ferrari drivers. I remember wanting to meet Lewis Hamilton because he was this amazing Black driver winning in England at the same time that Venus or I were winning at Wimbledon. I felt like we had to meet,” she wrote.
She went on to explain how that first meeting quickly turned into a genuine friendship built on shared success and mutual admiration.
“We did, and from then on, whenever we both won (which was a lot), we celebrated together. Over a decade later, we’re still very close. That’s my bro,” Serena Williams added.
The message highlighted a rare crossover between two global sporting icons, both of whom have dominated their disciplines for years and have often spoken about the importance of representation, resilience, and breaking barriers at the highest level.
For Lewis Hamilton, the Miami weekend marked another step in his second season with Ferrari, a campaign that continues to be a learning process for both the driver and the team. While results have fluctuated, his adaptation to the SF-26 project remains a key storyline as Ferrari works to close the gap to their rivals.
Beyond the sporting narrative, Williams’ words also reinforced the broader cultural impact both athletes have had, with their relationship standing as one of mutual respect rather than rivalry, often celebrating each other’s milestones across different sports eras.
As Ferrari looks ahead to the race in Miami, Lewis Hamilton will aim to convert his improved qualifying position into a strong Sunday result, while the spotlight off track continues to underline his status as one of Formula 1’s most influential figures both inside and outside the paddock.
