Two years as Scuderia Ferrari teammates which were lived ‘dangerously’ side by side, not without some certainly avoidable incidents, but on a human level between Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc the relationship seems to be stronger than ever. The Ferrari two-year period that saw them race together for the Maranello team represented a sort of handover within Scuderia Ferrari.
According to many, Charles Leclerc’s extraordinary performance during the 2019 Formula 1 season, in his first year with Ferrari, convinced the top management of the Italian side that they could do without the four-time Formula 1 world champion, who left the team at the end of the following season. In both years spent with Ferrari, Charles Leclerc beat Sebastian Vettel, scoring more race wins, more podiums and more points than the German driver.
Already at the moment when he left Scuderia Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel expressed his appreciation for Charles Leclerc, defining him as the “most talented driver” he had ever met. A few weeks ago, the German veteran once again spoke about his relationship with the young Monegasque driver, reaffirming his racing qualities and honestly analyzing their coexistence within the Maranello team. Speaking in the ‘fan-zone’, in front of all the fans, the current Aston Martin driver recognized how the former teammate beat him “fair and square” on track in their direct duel: “He [Charles] beat me fairly. He was very fast. I think he will go a long way if he has the right equipment. We saw it immediately back then and you can see it this year.” – former Scuderia Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel emphasized.
