The past months have seen a significant flow of personnel at Maranello. The new Ferrari team principal, Fred Vasseur, has been active in the engineering job market and a few weeks ago, he announced the hiring of a “Top Guy,” which now seems to correspond to the name Loic Serra.
The exclusive news report comes from the website Formu1a.Uno. Therefore, it won’t be the Red Bull man, Pierre Waché, the engineer destined to join the Ferrari team in 2025. Pierre Waché has recently renewed his contract with the Anglo-Austrian team, putting an end to Scuderia Ferrari’s interest.
The new “Top Guy” for Ferrari will be coming from rivals Mercedes: “The Frenchman has knocked on the door of Mercedes, his friend and rival Toto Wolff.”
What Ferrari needs is “a profile like Pierre Waché, an engineer with significant knowledge, especially in the areas of suspension, vehicle dynamics, and tire interaction.” This is implied by the words of Piergiuseppe Donadoni & Paolo D’Alesandro for Formu1a.uno.
The website reveals the name of the engineer, and so far, neither Ferrari nor Mercedes have commented on the matter. Loic Serra, a 51-year-old French engineer, is the one who joined the Italian side to focus on work for the 2025 project.
Since 2019, he has been the Performance Director for the Mercedes F1 team. Previously, he worked at Michelin before joining F1 with BMW-Sauber in the suspension department. In 2010, he moved to Mercedes, where he still works.

He is also French and has a similar background to the current Technical Director of Red Bull. He spent some time at Michelin before entering F1 with BMW-Sauber, around the same years. During his time at Michelin, he was involved in developing tires and new suspension types for the F1 client teams. He gained deep knowledge of vehicle dynamics, particularly the interaction between tires and the car. Loic Serra remained in the Research and Development department at Michelin until 2006 when the French manufacturer left F1. He then found a role at BMW Sauber, specifically in the Hinwil suspension department. In 2010, he was hired by Mercedes, where he has worked until now, also assuming one of the most important roles in the Brackley team, as Performance Director since 2019.
While he may not be an exact match to Pierre Waché‘s profile, in Mercedes, he has always worked on optimizing the aerodynamic platform determined by another group of people, through vehicle dynamics. He will need to do the same at Maranello, focusing on deepening the study of mechanics, one of the areas that need improvement within the Italian team, and ensuring the best possible interaction with the chosen aerodynamic concept.
As Formu1a.uno reports, this profile “will not overlap with Cardile, who will soon be officially the Technical Director.” Furthermore, it is mentioned, “It is a farewell from the former world championship team, which is still dealing with legal issues to be resolved, but which should not impede the talented engineer’s arrival in Maranello.”
