From 2025, the tire supplier for Formula 1 could change as the FIA and F1 have opened a tender to all tire manufacturers. Currently, participation applications have been submitted by Pirelli, but also by Bridgestone. Both companies are highly respected, and the team principals of the teams have always avoided expressing a preference between the two.
Speaking in an interview for Motorsport, Frederic Vasseur, the Team Principal of the Ferrari team, was also very diplomatic, saying he has “confidence” in both manufacturers. Below are his comments on this matter:
Pirelli or Bridgestone, Fred Vasseur remains neutral
Frederic Vasseur began his intervention saying: “We are talking about two giant companies, and I have confidence in both. I must admit that with Pirelli, over the years, every season, we have asked for different things – we wanted more degradation, then we wanted less. We used tire blankets, and now we want to remove them. So, we have to be honest; sometimes we complained, but we never had a consistent strategy regarding the tires.” – the French manager pointed out.
The Ferrari Team Principal then added: “We asked for and got wider tires, and then we also transitioned from 13 to 18 inches. With Pirelli, we know where we stand. It hasn’t always been perfect, but nothing is.” – he continued.

Regarding the other tire manufacturer, the Frenchman stated: “As for Bridgestone, we know they did a good job in the past. I had the opportunity to work with them for a couple of seasons, and the relationship was positive. But we also have to remember that this is not an easy challenge, especially considering that, in the end, it won’t be simple to provide them with a testing program to develop the product.” – Fred Vasseur explained.
The Frenchman then concluded his interview by saying: “You can’t expect to use a Formula 2 car because it has less than half the aerodynamic load of Formula 1 single-seaters.”
