“Today a very fast driver but without a contract won,” commented Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner on Carlos Sainz’s victory in Australia at the Albert Park circuit.
Christian Horner’s thoughts are shared by many. The Spaniard, victorious in Melbourne two weeks after undergoing appendix surgery, will leave Ferrari at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 championship and currently has no seat for the next season.
“Carlos is our nemesis,” joked Christian Horner. And indeed, the Spaniard is so far the only driver to have interrupted Red Bull’s dominance in the last two years.
Red Bull responds to the Ferrari dream team
And after leaving the Red Bull family in 2024, the Austrian side’s Team Principal opens the door to a sensational return of the Spaniard: “When you see such a performance, no possibility can be excluded,” confirmed Christian Horner at the end of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
It would be a great opportunity for the Spanish driver. Despite rumors of a possible departure of Max Verstappen, it is likely that Red Bull sees Carlos Sainz as the ideal replacement for Sergio Perez.

“Sergio has had a great start to the season,” explained Christian Horner. “Yuki is also very fast,” he added – “But sometimes you have to look outside the group. The market for certain drivers is very open.” A clear message from the Red Bull boss.
It should be added that Carlos’s father, Sainz Sr., has excellent relations with the energy drink group as well as being the face of the Austrian brand, a circumstance that could favor a transfer of his son to England.
For Red Bull, this would be the response to the dream team Ferrari has built for 2025. The reunited Max Verstappen – Carlos Sainz pair would thus challenge the red duo Charles Leclerc – Lewis Hamilton. And who knows if, in case the rumors of the Dutchman’s departure were to come true, in Milton Keynes they decide to bet everything on Carlos. He would truly deserve it, as much as we would dislike seeing him fight against the Maranello team in a competitive car.
