Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has predicted an extremely close battle for the constructors’ title in 2022 after running Mercedes close last season. At the same time, Christian Horner admits that he isn’t a fan of sprint races to determine the grid. The Red Bull boss spoke to Wion Sports Editor Digvijay Singh Deo and explained that he will be taking all of Red Bull’s rivals seriously in 2022 as Formula 1 embarks on a new era with overhauled technical regulations.
Given the new rules for the 2022 Formula 1 season, there is potential for the form book to be ripped up, with teams such as Scuderia Ferrari, McLaren and Alpine all aiming to fight at the front, while several other teams also switched their focus to the new rules early on, like Haas or Williams.

Despite the fact that he feels the usual contenders will be in front even in the 2022 championship, the Red Bull boss confirmed that the pecking order is difficult to predict, and is not ruling out the prospect of a team leaping forward from the back of the grid.
“I think there could be a a very different order” – Christian Horner replied when asked if he thinks the momentum will continue from 2021, with Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren in the lead pack – “in particular with the resurgence of teams such as Ferrari, McLaren, without excluding one or two surprises. In 2022 there will be a complete reset of the regulations, Mercedes and ourselves were very much involved in the fight for the championship last year. So, inevitably, this distracted us a bit on the plans for the next world championship, as we concentrated our forces on that duel. We expect very fierce competition, and I think it will be an exciting championship. I think it’d be foolish to underestimate any of the teams with such a big regulation change.” – Christian Horner concluded.
