Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport reports on the development work of Scuderia Ferrari on the engine and chassis for the 2022 Formula 1 season. According to the Italian media, the Maranello team’s drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz seem confident by the data collected in the simulations. The work carried out on the electrical part and on the Pirelli tyres during the 2021 championship was important.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz gradually improved their feeling with the Pirelli tyres, especially after the difficulties encountered in the French Grand Prix and they will be hoping for a similar feeling with the new Pirelli tyres when the cars hit the track at Montmelò from 23 to 25, when the first pre-season testing session is scheduled at the Circuit de Catalunya.

The Maranello team has moved all-in on the development of the new power unit to the point that after the Spanish GP, last May, it stopped developing the SF21. Or rather, it has focused only on evolutions that can then be exported to the 2022 project.
The rewards began to show last fall when the new hybrid battery pack was introduced. Many, perhaps, will not have noticed the difficulties encountered by Max Verstappen in overcoming Carlos Sainz, after the pit stop at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, despite the fact that, unlike the Ferrari driver, the Dutchman had fresh tires. This is because Max, before the braking, no longer had an electric recharge while the Spaniard did. It was an excellent demonstration of how good the hybrid updated component is. Excellent indications also come from the thermal efficiency. Thanks to Shell’s excellent work, it seems that the gap with the competition, which was of about ten horsepower, has already been recovered.
