After the Miami Grand Prix weekend, teams and drivers are ready for the seventh round of the season. It’s time for the Emilia-Romagna GP, which kicks off the European rounds and has been talked about a lot in recent weeks, as it may not renew its contract with F1. Now, however, let’s focus on this edition: let’s find out Pirelli’s choices for the Imola weekend and what to expect.
This year at Imola teams will have the following compounds available: C4 (Hard), C5 (Medium) and C6 (Soft). This is a softer trio of tyres compared to the one used in 2024. The big news lies in the use of the C6, a tyre that had not yet made its debut on track this season.
This choice will ensure a good level of grip on a track where the asphalt is not very abrasive, and tyre degradation is not excessive. Despite this, according to Pirelli’s simulations, the Soft will not be a particularly useful option during the race, so we likely won’t see it used. Using a tyre with such a short lifespan is not ideal, especially since Imola has the longest pit lane on the calendar. This makes a one-stop strategy the most convenient option on Sunday.
However, the Soft will play a key role in qualifying, a crucial moment of the weekend. Overtaking opportunities at Imola are limited, so a good starting position gives a strong advantage at this stage of the championship.
This compound trio will debut at Imola, but we’ll see it again soon on other weekends: Pirelli will analyze the data gathered from the teams to evaluate which compounds to bring for the second half of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
