Oscar Piastri echoes Lando Norris and believes that Ferrari is clearly ahead of McLaren in the 2024 F1 World Championship.
Oscar Piastri agrees with Lando Norris on Ferrari’s superiority
If the Bahrain tests have provided some fairly reliable feedback, they have focused on Ferrari. It seems established that the SF-24 is a clear step forward from its predecessor, and neither Charles Leclerc nor Carlos Sainz have hidden it.
The pace in race simulations seemed promising, and the times from the qualifying simulation should be weighed (not everyone used the red tire), but they place Ferrari in first and second positions: data that is also available to other teams, leading McLaren to believe they are behind. For Lando Norris, Ferrari and Red Bull are “quite ahead,” and Oscar Piastri has echoed the sentiment.
Oscar Piastri’s comments
“I think Red Bull is a step ahead of everyone. Ferrari also seems fast, not to the same extent, but at the moment, it appears to be a decent second force. We have some work to do, but it’s not a bad starting point for us,” commented the Australian on the Bahrain tests.
“I think we are among the top positions in the midfield, but if we want to start regularly fighting for podiums and trying to win races, we need to find something more,” he continued. “It hasn’t been the smoothest tests for us, but we’ve done a good job, and I feel more comfortable myself compared to the beginning of the tests. There’s still some work to do, but I believe we’re in a good position: next week, we’ll discover our capabilities.” – he concluded.
