The Bahrain GP didn’t start in the best way for Oliver Bearman, who lined up in 20th place. The Briton made a brilliant start, and by lap 5 he was already in 14th position. At the first pit stop he fitted a set of hard tyres, and at the second—under the Safety Car—he switched to the softest compound. On the restart he was in 12th place and eventually climbed to 10th, even keeping Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes behind.
“In the race I felt very good, it went by in a flash and in the final laps it came alive as I was trying to attack the cars ahead and defend from a Mercedes at the same time. I’m happy to have scored a point after a tough qualifying. I was lucky with the Safety Car, which somewhat made up for the difficulties I had in the second stint. I’m happy with how it went, I’m proud of myself and the whole team,” Oliver Bearman admitted in a press release.
Celebrating with him at the end of the race wasn’t just Ayao Komatsu, but also his family. “Ollie, this is your dad. You did a great job, fantastic. I love you,” said his father on the radio, now well-known for his emotional remarks. “I know you did all this just for the points bonus,” his younger brother joked afterward. “They’re all here today,” Oliver Bearman added, laughing.
