As usual, after learning about the latest decisions from the stewards regarding the maneuvers performed by Pierre Gasly and George Russell during Saturday’s qualifying session for the Spanish Grand Prix, it is appropriate to recap the starting grid for Sunday’s race at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
To keep it brief, the Alpine driver was found guilty of impeding Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen during their respective fast laps and will therefore receive a six-place grid penalty (three places for each incident). Having qualified fourth, he will start tenth ahead of Sergio Perez. No penalty, on the other hand, was given to Mercedes driver George Russell. The British driver received a formal reprimand and will start from his position in Q2, 12th on the grid.
Lewis Hamilton benefits from Pierre Gasly’s penalty and moves up from the second row to alongside Lando Norris. Fernando Alonso also moves up one spot and will start 8th behind the impressive Niko Hulkenberg. The front row remains unchanged with Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz.

Why provisional? This is because the teams’ technicians may still encounter problems with the cars before the race tomorrow, and if it is deemed necessary to replace a component subject to regulatory constraints as will most likely be the case for Charles Leclerc, the Federation would be required to move the driver of that car back a few positions on the grid.
