The qualifying session for the Spanish GP delivered breathtaking excitement. Up until Q2, it was truly difficult to determine who would secure pole position. However, once we reached Q3, Norris and Verstappen shifted into a higher gear compared to their rivals. With a final push, the British driver from McLaren managed to edge out the Red Bull champion by just 20 milliseconds. Mercedes lagged behind, with Hamilton in P3, over three-tenths back. Ferrari locks out the fourth row.
Perez reached Q3 but, having qualified eighth, will start from P11 tomorrow due to a three-place grid penalty received in Canada for not parking his crashed car immediately at the side of the track following an error that sent him into the wall. The qualifying session ended with an investigation pending on Sargeant and Stroll for impeding during Q1.
The provisional grid for the Spanish GP
With the FIA’s decision to penalize Logan Sargeant with a three-place grid drop for obstructing Stroll (who remains last), we can finally provide you with the provisional starting lineup.
Why do we call it a provisional grid? This is because team technicians might still find issues with the cars before tomorrow’s race, and if a component subject to regulatory constraints needs to be replaced, the Federation would have to demote the driver of the affected car a few positions on the grid.
