The 2025 Formula 1 season for the Maranello team is progressing well below expectations. The Miami weekend was extremely complicated, and in addition, we saw strong tensions between the drivers and the pit wall. Ferrari is heavily invested in this championship and will bring updates in anticipation of the regulation change in Barcelona. In Spain, there will be changes regarding wing flexibility, and the performance balance on the grid could shift significantly.
Upgrades are planned for Imola to ensure the team is prepared for the Catalan race. The problems of the SF-25 are mainly at the rear of the car, particularly in the suspension area. The true potential of the car remains unclear—even within the team, various perspectives have emerged. Meanwhile, Loic Serra has begun working on a new suspension layout expected for one of the summer races, such as Silverstone or Spa.
Fred Vasseur outlines Ferrari’s plan
As stated by the team principal, Ferrari has a clear update plan in mind to turn the season around starting from the Spanish GP. So far, we’ve only seen the modifications introduced at the Bahrain GP, which had been planned before the car’s flaws were fully identified. In any case, those upgrades were not particularly significant, unlike the ones scheduled for the upcoming races.
“From now until Barcelona, we will be making improvements,” admitted Fred Vasseur. He also emphasized the importance of the new technical directive also scheduled for Spain: “Surely everyone will have a new front wing. I think it could reset everyone’s performance.” – the French manager added.
Returning to the topic of potential, Fred Vasseur stressed the need to understand how to extract it from the car. The focus of the next Grands Prix will be exactly that: trying to put everything together and get the best out of the car. The aim is to put both drivers in the best conditions to showcase their immense talent. The biggest difficulties still lie in qualifying, where Charles often manages to compensate thanks to his skill over a single lap.
