Some see Scuderia Ferrari as the main favorite to win the Monaco Grand Prix taking place this weekend on the world’s most famous street circuit, while others prefer to lower expectations. Nothing new, it’s part of the game and predictions. It all gains more importance if one of the two main drivers of the Prancing Horse is the one trying to temper expectations.
Carlos Sainz, while being a central figure in the driver market for the next two Formula 1 seasons, is also focused on participating in his last year as a Ferrari driver, with the clear intent of achieving his final satisfactions in red before starting anew with a different team. Carlos Sainz himself explained why he doesn’t see Ferrari as the main favorite for success this weekend, but still aims for the best possible result.
“To be very honest, I think many of the top teams right now can win in Monaco,” began the Spanish driver – “Monaco is such a special weekend, such a special track, it takes a clean qualifying session to become the Monaco race. So I think between Red Bull, McLaren, and us, we’ll be very close and fighting within a few tenths.”
“This week we start on equal footing. And it will all depend on what suits our car best on the track. Low speeds have not been our strong point this year, so I’m a bit more cautious on this front.”
“Qualifying has not been our strong point this year. And we know how important it is in Monaco. That’s why maybe, after the question you asked me, I decided to temper expectations, but this doesn’t mean we’re not aiming for the win.”

“I think our goal is to win here this weekend and we will do everything we can to try to get the out lap, try to do the Q3 lap and make the race strategy.”
For Ferrari, it will be very important to start well from the first practice session scheduled for 13:30 tomorrow. It will be necessary to work very well on the setup already in the simulator and have good correlation right from the start to try to repeat what happened last year in Singapore.
“I know how important it is, after last year’s win in Singapore, to start off on the right foot, have a good feeling with the car in FP1 and especially throughout the weekend. So yes, after that weekend, this weekend I will follow the same philosophy, trying to be on pace right away. I know what it takes to win on a street circuit and how important it is to do well in qualifying. With this spirit, I will try to put together the best possible weekend and see where it takes us. But, as I said, I think it will be a very close weekend with the usual drivers.” – the Ferrari driver concluded.
