He couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the weekend. Charles Leclerc brought his Ferrari to first place in both of the Friday free practice sessions at the Monaco GP. It was a result few would have predicted beforehand, and it now turns the spotlight on the red-clad duo. In the afternoon session in the Principality, Lewis Hamilton also appeared comfortable in the “extreme” version of the SF-25. The Briton finished third, just over a tenth behind his teammate.
For Ferrari, it will now be crucial to confirm this pace on Saturday, as the Monaco weekend is often decided in qualifying.
Leclerc smiles but tempers the excitement
At the end of the first day of track activity, Charles Leclerc commented on his performance in the free practice sessions.
“Monaco is always a special track, not just for me but for anyone who drives on this circuit. Friday is used to get your references, so it’s too early to be confident heading into the weekend.”
“Obviously, it was a very positive day for us. The one-lap pace was good and I felt comfortable with the car, regardless of the compound used. As always, qualifying will be key. We need to start at the front if we want to bring home a good result,” said the Monegasque driver to Ferrari’s official channels.
For Ferrari’s morale, it would be essential to leave Monaco with a good result. The Scuderia is looking for stability, and to achieve it, they need to start putting together positive weekends. Only in this way will the Maranello engineers have the peace of mind necessary to solve the problems that have emerged in this first part of the season.
