Lewis Hamilton, third at the end of free practice, commented on the first day of track action at the Monaco GP.
After finishing fourth in Imola, Lewis Hamilton is aiming for his first podium with Ferrari, and the first two free practice sessions of the Monaco GP offered encouraging signs. The British driver, who ended FP1 far behind his teammate, looked much more comfortable in the afternoon, finishing third just over a tenth behind Charles Leclerc.
Lewis keeps smiling after a tough start to the season
Following a rather complicated start to the season, Lewis Hamilton is beginning to find the confidence needed to push the car to its limits. This was evident in Imola, where the former Mercedes driver staged an excellent comeback, and it was confirmed on Friday in Monaco. At the end of the day, Hamilton commented on his performance: “This track is always a challenge, but in the best sense of the word. Tackling it behind the wheel of a Ferrari makes it all the more special. We managed to complete our program and collected a lot of useful data. We’ll use that as a starting point to improve a few things,” he told Ferrari’s official channels.
“The pace looks promising even though we still have room to improve. The feeling with the car is good and the balance isn’t bad. I can’t wait to get back in the car and keep building on this foundation throughout the weekend,” added Hamilton.
The seven-time world champion hasn’t won in the streets of Monaco for five years. That was in 2019, a race Ferrari fans remember for Charles Leclerc’s attempted comeback in the early laps after a qualifying error by the team forced him to start from the back. That’s why Lewis Hamilton hopes to end his winless streak in the Principality this weekend.
