Former Scuderia Ferrari driver and Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher has officially become a grandfather, as his daughter, Gina Schumacher, welcomed her first child with her husband, Iain Bethke. The couple, who tied the knot in September 2024, celebrated their marriage at the Schumacher family villa in Majorca, Spain. While reports suggested that Michael Schumacher attended the wedding, this has not been publicly confirmed by the family.
The joyful announcement was made via social media, where Gina and Iain introduced their newborn daughter to the world: “Welcome to the world, Millie. Born on March 29th, our hearts are fuller than ever. We are beyond blessed to have you in our lives.” The couple’s heartfelt message has touched fans and family members alike, as they celebrate this new chapter in their lives.
Among those offering their congratulations were friends and family, including Gina’s brother, Mick Schumacher, a former F1 driver. Mick took to Instagram to express his pride and joy, sharing a story with the caption, “Proud of you.” Additionally, Sophie Kumpen, mother of four-time F1 world champion Max Verstappen, also shared her well-wishes.
Michael Schumacher, known for his unparalleled success in Formula 1, retired from the sport at the end of the 2012 season, making room for Lewis Hamilton to join Mercedes. Since his retirement, Schumacher’s life took a tragic turn when he suffered a severe skiing accident in December 2013. The accident left the German racing legend in an induced coma for several months, resulting in significant and life-altering injuries. Since then, the Schumacher family has maintained a very private life, keeping details about Michael’s health and recovery largely out of the public eye.
In addition to the joy of welcoming a new family member, the Schumacher family has faced unfortunate challenges. In early 2025, three men were convicted in connection with a blackmail plot against the family. The men had threatened to release 900 personal photos, almost 600 videos, and confidential medical records of Michael Schumacher on the dark web unless the family paid a ransom of £12 million. The court sentenced the men, but the Schumacher family’s lawyer, Thilo Damm, expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict, stating, “We do not agree with everything the court said. You can rest assured that we will exhaust all legal possibilities at our disposal.”
The emotional highs and lows of the Schumacher family’s recent years serve as a reminder of the immense challenges they have faced, while also highlighting the support and love that continues to surround them.
