Maurizio Arrivabene, the current team principal of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team, does not hide his disappointment with the outcome of the 2017 Russian Grand Prix, especially after the Maranello side managed to get both cars on the first row at the end of a perfect qualifying session on Saturday, for the first time since 2008.
Unfortunately, both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen failed to capitalize on the advantage as the Scuderia Ferrari cars were overtaken at the start of the race in Sochi. Valtteri Bottas was leading the Grand Prix at the end of the first lap and the Finnish driver managed to eventually win the race, on a track where overtaking is very difficult, despite the fact that Sebastian Vettel had a strong race pace in the second part of the Russian Grand Prix and finished very close to the Mercedes driver:
“A shame, because today’s result could have been better. We did not get a great start and that penalised us for the rest of the race, on a track where overtaking is difficult. Our race pace was very good, as indeed was our strategy. Once again, both Seb and Kimi proved their worth, driving great races. Now it’s already time for us to look ahead to the next Grand Prix in Spain.” – Maurizio Arrivabene said, as reported by Scuderia Ferrari’s official site.
For the moment Ferrari has lost the lead in the Formula 1 Constructor Standings, but the Maranello side’s team principal is well aware of the fact that such observations are not that important until the second part of the season: “Now it is not time to focus on the standings. We have to take each race at a time and try to get the best result. Also, we have to continue with the development of the car, because every team will improve and will be a lot stronger as the season progresses.” – Maurizio Arrivabene concluded.
