If there is one thing that Scuderia Ferrari’s Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen has become famous for apart from his natural talent, skills and speed on the track, it’s his legendary radio messages to his teams during Formula One races.
Luckily for all his fans, the 2017 Russian GP provided yet another perfect opportunity for the Iceman, as Kimi was somewhat confused regarding his position on the track, after the first and only pit-stop in Sochi. Running behind Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas and his Scuderia Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen seemd to be frustrated when questioning Bottas’ position ahead of him, thinking that the other Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, should have been in this situation.
The following is the full radio exchange between Kimi and his race engineer, Dave Greenwood, on lap 33 of the 2017 Russian GP:
Greenwood: “We are 9.5 [seconds] behind Bottas and eight tenths a lap quicker.”
Raikkonen: “What do you mean, we are behind Bottas?!”
Greenwood: “Confirm, we are behind Bottas.”
Raikkonen: “How did we end up behind him? Why did we not stop earlier?”
Greenwood: “He was leading the race, Kimi.”
Raikkonen: “Oh, okay. I thought it was the other way round.”
And it definitely sounds even better when you actually listen to the radio message. You can also hear even the commentators giggling in the background.
