In recent days, the relationship between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton has once again become a subject within Ferrari. After the race in Suzuka, many noticed how the statements made by the two Ferrari drivers are beginning to go in different directions.

Not what was expected at the start, considering both drivers had repeatedly emphasized having very similar driving styles — a factor that should, in theory, help the Scuderia’s engineers address the issues highlighted by the SF-25 in the early races of 2025.

The latest car born in Maranello, after being introduced as the outright favorite, is far from convincing the Tifosi. With fluctuating performance between Friday and Saturday and the double disqualification in Shanghai, Ferrari fans are now hoping the upgrades arriving in Bahrain can bring significant improvements.

In the meantime, someone has pointed out what Lewis Hamilton needs to do, now four months into his time at Maranello. “This is not a one-year project. That’s why the first thing he needs to do — and in part has already done — is take control of the team. He needs to make it his, to ‘take it away’ from Charles Leclerc,” said Jacques Villeneuve to Sky Sports UK. “He must do it, especially since during the winter everyone was talking only about Hamilton and Ferrari. Charles has been somewhat pushed into the background.”

“But in the end, it’s the track that matters. You need to get pole positions and win races. And when you’re Lewis Hamilton, those things happen quickly. That’s the only way to win over the team,” added the former driver while commenting on the relationship between the two Ferrari drivers.

Surely behind the diverging messages lies a car that isn’t instilling confidence and that, for some reason, is not living up to the expectations set at the beginning of the season. It will be interesting to see how the relationship evolves once Ferrari manages to solve the problems currently limiting them in this start to 2025.
