Lewis Hamilton criticized the new regulations set to come into force in the 2026 season—cars will be slower, but that’s not the only concern
Ferrari’s current season is not proceeding according to the team’s and Fred Vasseur’s initial plans. At this point in the year, teams are forced to decide whether to fully sacrifice 2025 or try to salvage the final part of the championship. In 2026, the new regulations will come into effect, and Lewis Hamilton has already voiced some concerns.
To be fair, the Briton is not the only one who has spoken out against next season’s changes. With this generation of ground-effect cars, we’ve seen one of the most closely contested versions of Formula 1. Starting next year, there’s a risk of returning to a dominant era like those of Mercedes or Red Bull in the past.
Also under scrutiny are the new Power Units, which are raising many doubts among those in the industry. The increased importance of the electric component is a direction not shared by many—fans included. The introduction of active aerodynamics could be an interesting point, but only the track will provide real answers.
Lewis Hamilton’s criticism
Lewis Hamilton recently spoke out about the new regulations that will come into force in 2026. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion did not offer words of praise for the FIA’s decision—quite the opposite. “We’re not going in the right direction,” said the Ferrari driver.
“Maybe I’ll be proven wrong next year. Maybe we’ll arrive and the cars will be good. But with the direction we’ve taken, the cars will be slower. In 2026 they’ll be lighter, but this generation of cars is the heaviest I’ve ever driven. Personally, I miss the noise.”
“When you hear a Ferrari V12, I feel the passion. Since we started with the V6s, which are a good choice for sustainability, the sound hasn’t been the same as when you heard Schumacher with his car in 2003.”
