Lewis Hamilton does not want to abandon work on the SF-25 despite Ferrari’s heavy focus on the 2026 Formula 1 project.
The current season is not going as hoped for the Maranello team. McLaren appears untouchable at this stage of the championship, even after the technical directive on flexible wings. The upcoming regulation changes are placing teams at a critical crossroads where they must decide what to prioritize. Lewis Hamilton is aware that Ferrari is focusing on 2026, but he does not want to write off this year’s championship.
Lewis has had a complicated start to the season. Aside from the Sprint win in China and the race in Imola, he has yet to fully showcase his driving abilities. A key factor will be his ability to work with the team and help guide it in the right direction. The hope remains to have a car capable of fighting for the title next year.
Lewis Hamilton’s intentions
As already mentioned, Lewis Hamilton would prefer that Ferrari not focus exclusively on 2026. The Briton does not consider this championship to be over and finds it hard to give up. The new updates to be introduced in the upcoming races will be crucial to understanding which direction to take for the rest of the season.
“I have no idea what updates will arrive, but it’s been a while since we’ve brought any. We’ll keep working with what we have, but before it’s too early I’ll say: Let’s focus on next year. This season we’re laying the groundwork—getting to know the tools and structures, refining processes. That way we’ll arrive in 2026 with the car we really want.”
“It’s not up to me. We are working on the 2026 car. I can’t say whether we’re doing so at 100%, but next year’s championship is wide open. This one is much harder to win—but it’s not over.”
