During the pre-weekend media day, the Ferrari driver wanted to express his gratitude for all the messages and gestures of support he has received from fans, colleagues, and the wider motorsport community.
Hamilton revealed that Roscoe had been admitted to hospital at the end of last week. Sadly, the seven-time world champion confirmed that Roscoe passed away on the evening of September 28. The bulldog had contracted pneumonia for the second time this year, a battle that proved too difficult for him to overcome.
During treatment, Roscoe suffered a heart attack and later slipped into a coma. Lewis Hamilton explained that every possible effort was made to keep him alive, but after long reflection and consultation, he had to take the heartbreaking decision to let his dog go. For the driver born in 1985, it was one of the most painful decisions of his life.
Throughout this difficult time, Lewis Hamilton kept his fans informed through his social media accounts. It was also on those platforms that he received an outpouring of support from fellow drivers on the grid, Formula 1 teams, the FIA, and even the sport’s official channels. Before focusing on the Singapore weekend, Lewis Hamilton returned to the subject and shared his feelings once more.
“I’ve received so many messages. It has been really overwhelming to see how many people Roscoe touched all around the world, and it was incredibly moving to receive them,” Lewis Hamilton told the media. “I wasn’t able to reply to everyone, but he was the most important thing in my life, so it has been a very difficult experience.”
He continued: “I know that so many people in the world have been through this and know what it feels like to have a pet that gives you such extraordinary love. It really is a wonderful experience. But now I am looking forward to getting back in the car and doing what I love here.”
When talking about the racing weekend itself, the Ferrari driver, who runs with number 44, added: “I think there are a lot of people who deserve a good result from me and from this team. The fans and the people who have followed me, and everyone who, as I said, reached out and supported me not just this past week, but throughout the entire year. I think it is in moments like this that you really see people stepping up for you. And that, as I mentioned, has been very emotional to witness and something I truly appreciate.”
