Lewis Hamilton arrived at Monza in spectacular fashion ahead of the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, driving his restored Ferrari F40 into the circuit on Thursday morning. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion had carefully planned the moment for his second Italian Grand Prix in Ferrari colours, bringing together one of the cars closest to his heart with the Scuderia’s most iconic home race.
The arrival had been anticipated in the days leading up to Monza, when Lewis Hamilton spoke about the restoration of his personal Ferrari F40. The project has now reached its fitting conclusion at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, with the British driver making his entrance behind the wheel of the celebrated Maranello model.

Hamilton had previously explained why the F40 carries particular personal significance. He specifically wanted that Ferrari model to feature in his first Ferrari photograph in January 2025, describing it as one of the Prancing Horse’s cars that held a special place in his heart.
It therefore comes as little surprise that the restoration was completed in time for the Monza weekend. The F40 had been found after spending 30 years unused in a garage, and Hamilton’s project brought the car back in time for one of the most important weekends of his Ferrari season.
The seven-time world champion then used his newly restored red Ferrari for his Thursday morning arrival at the circuit, giving the story another chapter at the home of the Italian Grand Prix. More coverage of the British driver’s season with the Scuderia can be found in the Lewis Hamilton Ferrari news archive.
Hamilton completes the Monza look with carefully chosen outfit
The car was not the only part of Lewis Hamilton’s arrival that had been carefully considered. Despite the warm conditions at Monza, the Ferrari driver opted for a complete tailored look built around an oversized camel-coloured overcoat.
Hamilton paired it with a dark suit, white shirt and black tie, while a black beret and dark sunglasses completed the outfit. The combination made his entrance at the Autodromo as distinctive visually as the Ferrari F40 he had chosen to drive.
For Hamilton, the appearance also connected his present as a Ferrari Formula 1 driver with a car that had already played an important role in the beginning of his Maranello journey. His Ferrari F40 restoration project had been revealed shortly before the Italian Grand Prix, and its completion was timed perfectly for Monza.
