Lewis Hamilton has revealed his personal Ferrari F40, fulfilling a childhood dream with an extraordinary example of one of Maranello’s most iconic road cars. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion explained that the F40 had been sitting covered in dust in a garage for more than 30 years before Ferrari’s engineers and mechanics worked for weeks to bring it back to life.
The car also has a special connection to the beginning of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari journey. When the British driver officially began his adventure with the Italian team on 20 January 2025, he immediately put his unmistakable style on the occasion with a photograph that quickly spread across websites and social media around the world.

For his first day at Maranello, Lewis Hamilton wore a long Ferragamo coat over a dark blue pinstripe double-breasted suit, with a dark tie and a Ferrari white shirt. The look was completed by the distinctive red soles of his Louboutin shoes. More importantly for Ferrari enthusiasts, however, Hamilton was photographed alongside an iconic Ferrari F40.
The image immediately became one of the defining pictures of the beginning of his Ferrari career. As Lewis Hamilton has now revealed, the F40 was far more than simply a spectacular backdrop for his arrival at Maranello.

A few minutes ago, Lewis Hamilton shared a series of photographs on his Instagram account revealing that, thanks to the work carried out by Ferrari’s mechanics and engineers, an F40 that had spent decades sitting in a garage has been restored and has now become his own.
Explaining just how important the Ferrari F40 has always been to him, Lewis Hamilton wrote:
“My very own F40. This is the car of my dreams and has been for as long as I can remember. As a kid I dreamt of having one. When I joined Ferrari last year I made sure to have one with me on my first day at Maranello. That’s how much it means to me.
These cars are works of art and incredibly rare, so when I found this one, covered in dust after being sat in a garage for over thirty years, I knew I had to bring her home. First to Maranello, where the master engineers and mechanics at the factory worked for weeks to bring her back to life. Massive thank you to everyone who had a hand in this project. This has truly been a dream come true. I can’t wait to share more with you all. Stay tuned…”

The restoration therefore became a special project involving Ferrari’s own specialists at Maranello. After more than three decades in storage, the F40 was taken to the factory, where engineers and mechanics spent several weeks bringing the car back to life.
For Lewis Hamilton, the finished Ferrari F40 represents much more than the ownership of a rare supercar. It is the fulfilment of a dream that dates back to his childhood and is closely connected to the start of his life with Ferrari, explaining why he specifically wanted an F40 alongside him on his first day at Maranello.
