Lewis Hamilton makes emotional return to Silverstone—this time in red
For the first time in his illustrious career, Lewis Hamilton will race at Silverstone in Ferrari colors. After a challenging start to the 2025 Formula 1 season, the seven-time world champion is hoping that his home Grand Prix will mark a turning point in what has so far been a difficult debut campaign with Scuderia Ferrari.
Hamilton arrives at the British Grand Prix with more questions than answers, despite some signs of progress in recent races. When he made the high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, expectations were sky-high. Lewis Hamilton had hoped to fight immediately for an eighth world title—the primary reason behind his move to Maranello—but the SF-25 has shown limitations that have made this season more difficult than anticipated.
Lewis Hamilton shares his thoughts ahead of his home race
In Ferrari’s traditional pre-race preview, Lewis Hamilton opened up about what it means to return to Silverstone as a Ferrari driver:
“Silverstone has always been more than just a track for me. I’ve experienced some of the most unforgettable moments of my career here, always with the crowd by my side. Coming here for the first time in Ferrari red is something truly special.”
“I’ve written so many beautiful chapters of my story on this circuit. Some corners here are absolutely iconic—Copse, and then Maggots and Becketts… that whole sequence is incredible. When you nail it perfectly, it feels like you’re flying. But what makes Silverstone truly unique is the atmosphere. There’s a reason I’ve been on the podium so many times here—it’s the fans’ love and energy.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion pointed out.
From my very first win in 2008 to my ninth, last year, the British fans have always been there for me. No matter where I am on track, I can feel their support from inside the car,” said the British driver.
A message to the next generation
The former Mercedes star also shared a message aimed at young people and anyone facing their own challenges:
“Find what you’re passionate about and chase it with everything you’ve got. Ask questions, take your time, and learn from your mistakes. We all fall at times, but it’s how we get back up that defines us. Never give up.”
