Lewis Hamilton consistently remains one of the most talked-about figures during every Formula 1 race weekend, and not always for his on-track performance alone.
The Belgian Grand Prix was yet another challenging race for Lewis Hamilton during his inaugural season with Ferrari. Despite the difficulties he faced on the circuit, the seven-time world champion offered insight into the substantial behind-the-scenes efforts he is making to assist Fred Vasseur’s team in regaining their past dominance in the sport.
Hamilton has reportedly prepared and submitted several detailed documents for Ferrari’s internal review ahead of the 2026 season. At 40 years old, Hamilton brings a vast reservoir of experience and technical knowledge accumulated over his illustrious career with McLaren and Mercedes, which he is now attempting to leverage at the Italian powerhouse.
Since joining Ferrari, Hamilton has been endeavoring to replicate the kind of influence and technical input he successfully exerted at Mercedes. However, he is rapidly realizing that this will be a far more complex task than initially anticipated. Ferrari’s operational culture is not necessarily rigid, but the team is increasingly isolated from the broader Formula 1 paddock, as most other teams are based in the United Kingdom where the exchange of ideas and personnel is much more common.
Over the recent break between races, Lewis Hamilton drafted three comprehensive documents aimed at providing Ferrari with strategic insights and potential solutions. His hope is that these contributions will help him mount a serious challenge for an unprecedented eighth drivers’ world championship next season.
Details of Lewis Hamilton’s three Ferrari documents have recently come to light. Motorsport journalist Raymond Blancafort, writing for Soy Motor, has shared more in-depth information regarding the content of these internal notes.
Fred Vasseur is currently on the mandated Formula 1 summer shutdown, during which teams must halt all factory work for two weeks. During this period, stringent monitoring of all team communications is enforced to ensure no unauthorized development occurs that might unfairly benefit any competitor.
Despite the shutdown, Raymond Blancafort suggests that Fred Vasseur must carefully review what he refers to as ‘The Hamilton Papers’ during the break to ensure that Ferrari’s direction aligns with the goals of both the driver and the team’s long-term strategy.
These dossiers reportedly cover three main topics: Hamilton’s assessment of the current car’s performance and weaknesses, his evaluation of Ferrari’s team organization and structure, and a series of potential solutions aimed at addressing the team’s ongoing challenges.
It is crucial to emphasize that Hamilton’s documents were not intended as criticism of Ferrari’s management. In fact, Hamilton has publicly defended Fred Vasseur in the past, especially before the extension of the team principal’s contract was finalized. While the Briton has been highly self-critical regarding his own performance this season, he also recognizes the necessity for the team to match his ambition if Ferrari is to end its prolonged trophy drought.
Lewis Hamilton has also issued a subtle warning that Ferrari may choose to follow the lead of their current front-runner, Charles Leclerc, when developing the car for the 2026 season. Although no Formula 1 team designs a car exclusively for a single driver—despite rumors such as those surrounding Max Verstappen’s status at Red Bull—the feedback of the driver delivering better results often receives greater weight during the development process.
Currently, Charles Leclerc leads his Maranello teammate in the drivers’ championship by 42 points, a gap that puts added pressure on the British driver. More concerningly, during race weekends where the Monegasque has been a strong podium contender, Lewis Hamilton has only managed to seriously challenge for top positions once, at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Nonetheless, if Ferrari takes Lewis Hamilton’s advice seriously and implements his recommendations, there is every reason to believe that both drivers can be competitive contenders for podium finishes and race victories in the 2026 season and beyond.
