Fred Vasseur, the Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari, recently gave an in-depth interview discussing the current performance of the Prancing Horse and the outlook for the remainder of the 2025 Formula 1 season as well as the important years ahead. At Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, the focus is strongly set on the future development and resurgence of the legendary Italian racing team. Following the Belgian Grand Prix, Ferrari’s team environment found renewed calm and optimism thanks to the multi-year contract extension secured by Fred Vasseur. This strategic decision made by the management in Maranello underscores the clear confidence and trust that the Scuderia wants to continue placing in its current Team Principal.
The French director, as reported on the official Formula 1 media channels, spoke extensively about Ferrari’s ongoing challenges and ambitions, emphasizing how the team intends to tackle the rest of the 2025 season and strategically plan for the next years to come. Below are Fred Vasseur’s detailed comments on these subjects.
Fred Vasseur on the remainder of the 2025 Formula 1 season
Even though Scuderia Ferrari is not currently in contention for the Drivers’ Championship title this year, Fred Vasseur strongly believes it remains crucial to continue pushing hard to finish the 2025 season in the best possible position. This is particularly important given the significant stakes involved in the highly competitive Constructors’ Championship.
“We have made good progress, it is a positive step forward. We have had a few honest and open discussions within the team,” admitted Fred Vasseur, Ferrari’s Team Principal. “In recent weeks, the media circulated various rumors and speculation. I understand that this situation was not easy for maintaining team stability and morale, but now we have managed to put those challenges behind us.”
“This is very important. We need to be fully prepared and focused for the final part of the season. Currently, we are battling for second place in the Constructors’ Championship alongside Mercedes and Red Bull, and of course, we want to secure some race victories before the season concludes.”
Drawing on several historical examples from Formula 1’s rich past, Fred Vasseur explained that it is perfectly normal for a complex project like Ferrari’s current rebuild to still require time to fully come together and deliver consistent results.
“I am genuinely convinced that time is needed,” he said. “This is not just true for Ferrari but applies universally. If you look at any successful story in Formula 1 — such as when Christian Horner first took charge at Red Bull, or when Jean Todt joined Ferrari — all these success stories required time before their first wins came through.”
“Moreover, considering the current resource and budget systems in the Formula 1 paddock, it typically takes a couple of years to build the right team and bring on board the key people you want to work with. Everyone at Ferrari is fully aligned with this long-term project and pushing together in the same direction. That shared conviction is probably the most positive and motivating feeling — having a clear goal and everyone believing firmly that we can achieve it.”
Fred Vasseur on the current 2025 performance and the 2026 season outlook
Fred Vasseur continued by analyzing the 2025 season to date: “As is always the case during any Formula 1 campaign, there are upsides and downsides. You can choose to see the glass as half empty or half full. It’s true that in the Constructors’ Championship, we currently lead Red Bull Racing and Mercedes AMG Petronas, but at the same time, we are somewhat trailing behind McLaren.”
“For us, it is vital to hold onto second place and to keep fighting to win more races until the very end of the season.”
Looking ahead to 2026, given the major regulatory changes coming next year, Fred Vasseur considers the upcoming season a huge opportunity for Ferrari’s revival and return to winning ways.
“The 2026 project represents an enormous challenge, one that we must approach fully aligned as a team,” he declared. “It is no secret that Scuderia Ferrari wants to come back to winning races and championships. We have a very, very clear and ambitious goal. We will do everything in our power to reach it. The 2026 challenge is indeed a great opportunity for us.”
“We made some progress, probably at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. Now we need to better understand the new suspension system and get it finely tuned. But at this point, our complete focus is on the 2026 season. This means we have to extract the maximum performance from our current package while preparing fully for next year’s regulations. I still want to win races this season, but the primary focus is clearly on 2026.”
