Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur commented on the Maranello team’s second-place finish in the highly anticipated 2023 Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc was the star of a high-level race that could have ended in victory if not for the Safety Car and hard tires struggling to deliver. After a lock-up that allowed Sergio Perez to take the second position, Charles never gave up, making a superb pass on Red Bull’s #11 on the last lap to reclaim second place.
In an interview with Sky microphones, Team Principal Fred Vasseur analyzed the race, stating an interesting point. Reference was made to Ferrari’s last victory in Singapore with Carlos Sainz, thanks in part to excellent teamwork from Leclerc. When asked if today’s second place has a greater emotional value than the Asian race (especially considering the race pace), the Frenchman responded.
“Yes, you’re right! I think Singapore was a good race for us, but today we were there until the last corner with Charles!”
“I believe Charles Leclerc had an exceptional race, overtaking a Red Bull three times, which doesn’t happen very often. We finished in second place, even though our goal was the first, but overall, I think our performance was great.”

Fred Vasseur also commented on Carlos Sainz’s race, who made a mistake in turn 1 but managed to reach sixth place: “Carlos also returned to sixth place after the mistake on the first lap. Today’s performance was good, although we didn’t have much luck with the timing of the Safety Car.” – the French manager admitted at the end of the 2023 Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
