Lando Norris isn’t excluding anyone from the 2025 title race: the McLaren driver even fears a comeback from Ferrari. Speaking to the media during the press conference ahead of the Barcelona weekend, which was also attended by F1inGenerale, the Brit shared his expectations for the season.
At the moment, Norris is three points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri. A win in Spain would move car #4 to the top of the standings. McLaren can be almost relaxed with over 300 points in the Constructors’ standings. The fight for the Drivers’ title could appear to be narrowing down to just the two papaya teammates.
According to Norris, however, a third contender shouldn’t be ruled out. “I think, mathematically, probably the entire grid could win the championship at the moment. So, if you think it’s just down to me and Oscar, I think you’re being a bit silly. I think there are many opportunities.”
Lando isn’t excluding his rival Max from the fight, and admitted: “Verstappen can still win.” And that’s not all. In the Constructors’ standings, McLaren will have to watch their backs. It’s true that Andrea Stella’s team has double the points of Mercedes, currently second, but Ferrari is making progress.
Indeed, driver #4 predicts that the Prancing Horse could cause them trouble at some point in the year: “I expect Ferrari to improve over the course of the season.”
So far, Lando Norris has won two races, while his teammate Oscar Piastri has taken four. Max Verstappen has also won two and is currently third in the Drivers’ standings, 25 points behind leader Oscar Piastri. For this reason, the Brit hasn’t ruled the Red Bull driver out of the title fight: the Dutchman still has everything it takes to claim his fifth consecutive world championship.
“We fight Max every weekend,” added the McLaren driver. “He’s been on the podium several times. He’s won races. He beat us at Imola, and fairly so because he was faster. I don’t know why that makes you think the battle [for the title] is just between me and Oscar.” – Lando Norris concluded ahead of the Spanish Grad Prix weekend.
