Too much confidence and unmet expectations: Charles Leclerc responds to the media regarding the performance of the Ferrari SF-25 in F1, in Barcelona. The Monegasque driver, who finished second in Monte Carlo, does not believe that Maranello aimed too high over the winter. The goal remains to reduce the gap to McLaren by bringing updates and gaining precious tenths to keep the championship alive.
Charles Leclerc aligns with the stance set by Frédéric Vasseur. The Team Principal of the Prancing Horse, in a much-discussed interview a few weeks ago, had stated that the expectations of a Ferrari fighting for both championships were created by the media, not by the team. On the eve of the ninth round of the season, car #16 returns to the topic, confirming what the Frenchman had already said.
The arrival of Lewis Hamilton and the media buzz: Charles Leclerc defends Ferrari
Speaking to journalists present in Barcelona, including reporters from the Italian and international media, Charles Leclerc defended Maranello’s approach: “I don’t think we were too confident, no. I think at the start of the season there was a lot of buzz around the team, but that’s not something we can control.” – he pointed out.
“Lewis was joining the team and it was a big thing for the F1 paddock. There was a lot of talk about Ferrari and perhaps also a lot of hope that we were already at a level we haven’t yet reached. Of course, those hopes existed within the team as well.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out – “We were hoping we had done a good job and wanted to fight for the championship or at least pick up where we left off at the end of last season, but that didn’t happen. Still, I don’t think we were too optimistic — we were just focused on ourselves, and in fact, we haven’t been good enough in this first part of the season.” – Charles Leclerc concluded, ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, which takes place at the 4.657-kilometre Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday.
