Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya is convinced that Adrian Newey might sign with Ferrari only under a specific condition. The Maranello team appears to be leading the “race” for Adrian Newey, and according to Juan Pablo Montoya, the Italian side has an important card to play.
However, it’s not just Ferrari interested in the former Red Bull engineer. Aston Martin, Mercedes, and Williams have also made offers and probably aren’t the only ones. Eddie Jordan, Adrian Newey’s manager, hinted that the decision will not come soon. The two will want to carefully evaluate all possible options before choosing the new team.

Speaking in a recent interview for RacingNews365, former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya explained that from his perspective, Ferrari could leverage road cars to convince Adrian Newey: “I think the only reason he would go to Ferrari is if he could build road cars,” said the Colombian racing driver who has competed in open-wheel car, sports car and stock car racing events.
“If Ferrari told him: ‘The next five supercars will be your responsibility and you will have to build the F1 car,’ I think he would jump at the chance because he likes to push the boundaries.” He made the Red Bull Car [the RB17], which should be crazy. The Colombian, however, disagrees with those who believe that without Adrian Newey, Red Bull will lose its strength. From his perspective, the key people in Milton Keynes are already in place to carry out future projects.
“I don’t see Red Bull failing,” Juan Pablo Montoya stated. “There is work to be done, but I believe they have hired the right people to do it.” – he concluded.
