Christian Horner and Ferrari
A couple of weeks ago, the German newspaper Bild reported an alleged attempt by Ferrari to bring Christian Horner to Maranello. Christian Horner himself did not deny interest from other teams but affirmed his loyalty to Red Bull. Later, rumors emerged that Horner himself might have spread the stories about Ferrari and that the contacts had indeed happened, but not recently.
Joe Saward’s revelation
Through his blog, well-known English journalist Joe Saward further clarified the rumors about Christian Horner and Ferrari: “This story was true about three years ago, when president John Elkann flew to England, visited Christian, and asked if he wanted to move to Maranello. Christian Horner replied: ‘No, but thanks for the offer,’ and Elkann returned.”
In short, Christian Horner was approached for the post-Mattia Binotto position, but the choice later fell at the end of 2022 on Frederic Vasseur. For the journalist, “it is unlikely the answer would change if Ferrari were to call again,” and he used a vivid metaphor to describe the job of Ferrari team principal: “It is considered a career move similar to throwing yourself into a fire (with a fireproof wallet).”
Fred Vasseur’s future
Saward also spoke about Frederic Vasseur, explaining that “it is inevitable that his future is beginning to be questioned,” adding that “Elkann will remain patient until he sees what the 2026 car can do.”
Regarding Vasseur’s future, Autosprint commented: “Vasseur shaky? Who knows. Nothing leaks from Maranello, perhaps because there is nothing to leak. Fred Vasseur enjoys the trust of president John Elkann and continues on his path. […] Meanwhile, in the paddocks of Monte Carlo and later Montmeló, rumors have started about who could eventually replace him. The first name is Christian Horner, […]. Then Andreas Seidl resurfaced […], but that seemed like publicity from his German friends. Then again Antonello Coletta, the man of the constant ‘no thanks.’”
