The famous Sky Sport F1 commentator, Carlo Vanzini, in his latest YouTube video, made some reflections on Lewis Hamilton’s current situation at Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton, coming off a sixth-place finish at the Spanish GP, will have to try to reverse the course of this first season with Ferrari starting from the Canadian GP. Vanzini’s opinion on Ferrari’s start to the season, both regarding Leclerc and Hamilton.
The last F1 race showed a disheartened and worried Hamilton. Will he manage to redeem himself?
Carlo Vanzini’s opinion
Carlo Vanzini, in his latest YouTube video, warns: “Lewis Hamilton, from my personal point of view, would have been very good for Ferrari, for Charles Leclerc, more than for himself. All this in a very positive scenario. In a scenario that has turned out absolutely negative for everyone, it goes without saying that the boomerang effect, the disappointment effect, is normal.”
The Sky Sport F1 commentator touched on many topics, including the words of the seven-time world champion spoken in Barcelona to British television. On that occasion, Lewis Hamilton pointed the finger at himself to justify his performance at the Spanish GP. According to Carlo Vanzini, these words should be interpreted as: “I believe there is a great disappointment in not being where they had evidently guaranteed him he would be, because he himself would not have made such bold declarations in February when the car was not yet physically ready. So there is that part, and in addition, there is the part where he is ‘getting soundly beaten’ by Leclerc.”
Carlo Vanzini added: “Ferrari is in a complex phase. On one hand, there is the relative need to achieve the best possible results — relative because the best result is currently third, or fourth, fifth, or fighting for second place, which objectively is money, but you are 800 points behind McLaren, you don’t qualify for anything, it’s only an economic issue.”
The choice to focus on Lewis Hamilton
Carlo Vanzini, in his YouTube commentary, reiterated that Ferrari is in a position where it is forced to do something to change the course of the season: “There is also the need for Ferrari to do something to make Hamilton work.” Vanzini then continued: “There is more the condition of having to get results with Lewis Hamilton. Why? Because the choice has to be justified. You chose to choose Hamilton.”
The boomerang effect could also spoil the atmosphere inside the team: “Ferrari must make it work both to keep morale high and to avoid internal discussions about value, because then discontent arises. The deadly boomerang that then comes back. At the start, everyone can’t wait, the voices from the rear box: ‘We’re not ready yet for someone like Lewis,’ everyone taking selfies, photos because a legend arrives. But then it becomes: ‘Is this guy good or not?’, ‘Did we make the right choice?’ So there is a need to make Lewis go fast. All this without compromising Charles Leclerc’s path, who this year can only realistically hope to win one race.”
