Frédéric Vasseur’s arrival at Maranello has brought fresh air to an environment that is now trying to lift its head up from the difficulties encountered on the track, following the recipe of the French manager. Among the paths taken by the new Team Principal is that of the engineer market: in this context, could a helping hand for the Ferrari F1 team come from the WEC department? Antonello Coletta answered this question to TuttoMotoriWeb.it.
Antonello Coletta is the head of Ferrari’s Endurance department. The Italian engineer leads the group that, in 2023, brought the Prancing Horse back to the top category of WEC, adding the icing on the cake (and what a cherry it is!) with the triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Returning to compete at the high levels of WEC, Ferrari immediately demonstrated competitiveness, delivering the joys to the red team’s fans that the F1 team has been unable to provide for too long. This is how rumors of possible “assistance” from Ferrari’s WEC department to the F1 “brothers” have spread among insiders: Antonello Coletta addressed these rumors.
Antonello Coletta did not deny the possibility of a “transfer” of engineers from the Endurance area to the Formula 1 department. In an interview with TuttoMotoriWeb, in an article by Antonio Russo, the engineer explained, “This can happen, it has also happened the other way around.”
“We are a large company,” he continued. “There is a lot of crossover between projects. It can happen that there are internal movements. This should benefit the careers of the guys and should not compromise the company’s objectives.” – he pointed out.
“We always try to best combine the objectives and needs of everyone,” he concluded on the subject, not ruling out the possibility of personnel moving from Maranello to… Maranello. Was this also discussed in Budapest? Antonello Coletta was indeed present in the Ferrari garage during the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, with Laurent Mekies as his guide on his farewell tour, explaining to his colleague how the operations in the Ferrari pit wall work.
