Lewis Hamilton has set a new record: he has not reached the podium in the first 10 Grands Prix of the season – something that had never happened in his career.
The Canadian Grand Prix ended with a sixth-place finish for Lewis Hamilton. During the race, he said over the radio: “I’m nowhere in this race. I don’t know what happened.”
For several Grands Prix now, the seven-time world champion has not felt comfortable in the SF-25, and the results prove it. Lately, the Briton seems visibly discouraged by the situation, especially since his teammate has already stepped onto the podium several times.
Canada didn’t go well for Lewis Hamilton, but it wasn’t entirely his fault. After his first stop, he began losing time due to the position he rejoined in – right in the middle of a DRS train, making overtaking difficult. He also suffered damage to his car, likely caused by hitting a groundhog that was on the track.
Now, the British champion is focused entirely on 2026: “On my side, I need to build a foundation. It’s clear that we’re out of the title fight this season, but we need to make sure we have a good car for next year. We shouldn’t waste too much time worrying about this season… I want to make sure next year’s car is significantly better than this year’s.”
Lewis Hamilton’s negative record
Lewis Hamilton has had some highlights in 2025: winning the Sprint race in China and finishing third in Miami’s Sprint. However, he has yet to shine in a Grand Prix this season.
His best result in the first 10 races has been a fourth place in Imola. Compared to his teammate and the expectations at the start of the year, it’s fair to say things aren’t going well for him.
Unfortunately, his new record is not a positive one. This is the first time in his career – which began back in 2007 – that Lewis Hamilton has not made it onto the podium in the first 10 races of a season.
In twelve seasons, he reached the podium in the opening race – in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. On three occasions, he secured a podium in the second race – in 2012, 2014, and 2020. In 2023, he first appeared on the podium in the third race, while in only two seasons he had to wait until the tenth race – in 2009 and 2024.
He might soon set another unwanted milestone. Between 2024 and 2025, Lewis Hamilton is now on a 12-race podium drought – just one race shy of his personal record, also set between 2023 and 2024. If he fails to finish in the top three in Austria this year, the seven-time world champion will mark a new personal worst: 13 consecutive Grands Prix without a podium.
