Alex Albon-Ferrari, rumors resurface
As is known, Scuderia Ferrari is in talks with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to extend the contracts of the two drivers, expiring at the end of the 2024 Formula One championship.
While there seem to be few doubts about renewing the Monegasque’s contract, several market rumors occasionally cloud the situation with the Spaniard. The latest rumor, recently, came from Lawrence Barretto, in an article for the official Formula 1 website, who did not hesitate to indicate the potential Plan B in case of difficulties with the Spanish driver: “Carlos Sainz is eager for a two-year deal, but if they fail to conclude the negotiations positively, Ferrari would not lack options. Alex Albon would be the most likely candidate.” – he explained. However, there is no doubt that Maranello’s priority is to confirm the pairing of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The improvement of Alex Albon
Many will remember Alexander Albon’s promotion from Toro Rosso to Red Bull after just 12 races in Formula 1 and the difficulties encountered by the Thai-British driver alongside Max Verstappen at just 23 years old. Albon did not meet the expectations of Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, and after only two podiums in a year and a half, he found himself off the starting grid. A year on the sidelines, however, allowed him to regroup and come back stronger in 2022 with Williams, where he managed to stand out for speed and consistency, with 10 points finishes in two years.
James Vowles talks about his drivers
“Albon is very good,” explained team principal James Vowles to Auto, Motor und Sport, justifying his judgment: “Today’s Alex is different from the one at Red Bull. He lacked self-confidence, but now he has it. He is happy and is a leader, works in a structured way, and provides direction. If other drivers were to drive a Williams tomorrow, they would struggle to beat him. Today, I can say that Alex always manages to get the most out of the car he has. And every time we put pressure on him, he can withstand it, even though he’s driving a challenging car.” – the Williams boss added.
James Vowles has no doubts: “This experience at Williams will prove beneficial for him. For me, Alex has the ability to one day become a world champion, I say that honestly.” A final remark is also made about Logan Sargeant, confirmed in the team despite numerous incidents: “Logan needs to be evaluated based on the last races. He was a rookie who had to learn a lot. Before his debut, Oscar Piastri completed 11,000 kilometers in an old F1 car; in the past, some did 20,000. Sargeant has only done 800. It must be recognized that he has made progress race after race and has reduced mistakes.” – James Vowles concluded.
