In the podcast Formula For Success, former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and Irish businessman, television personality and former motorsport team owner Eddie Jordan, who is also Adrian Newey’s manager, were involved in a heated discussion about the future of the well-known British engineer, which has been one of the most widely discussed and debated in the last few months.
Where will Adrian Newey go next?
The former McLaren and Red Bull driver insinuated that the Austrian team’s recent results crisis might be linked to the engineer’s departure and spoke about his next team. According to the Scotsman, or at least based on sources close to him, Adrian Newey is very close to Aston Martin, less so to other teams. However, these statements irritated Eddie Jordan, who promptly responded: “What you just said is extremely fanciful.”
“It would be enough to remember the things I said and what Adrian said… He is still undecided. What you just said is inaccurate and fanciful,” he repeated.
Here’s why Adrian Newey hasn’t decided yet
At that point, David Coulthard, also curious, asked Eddie Jordan to reveal which team Adrian Newey would be joining next, but the Irishman replied: “Why should I tell you? Many say that Red Bull should contact him and ask him to return again, but honestly, I think it’s too late. I would say the only certainty is that he won’t stay there [at Red Bull].” – the former motorsport team owner pointed out, as he then continued: “The truth is that Adrian is going through a period of inactivity. He has worked every year of his life, night and day, since he was 19 years old. Now he is over 60. He is enjoying himself, his daughter got married, and he is doing other things he has never been able to do before,” the Irish manager concluded.
In short, there are several scenarios for Adrian Newey’s future, and Scuderia Ferrari is still also watching, hoping for a positive outcome despite the recent rumors indicating that the British engineer does not intend to leave the UK and is therefore inclined to accepting the offer he has received from Lawrence Stroll’s team. We just have to wait for an official announcement on the matter, which will most likely arrive in September or October, also due to a clause in his contract with Red Bull that prevents him from officially confirming his new team until autumn.
