According to a new report, Aston Martin has launched a counterattack, offering Adrian Newey a super contract.
“My name is Newey, Adrian Newey”: with this reference to one of the most famous English spies of all time, is the technician getting closer to Aston Martin? Eddie Jordan joked about this in an interview with F1 Insider, and the mention of James Bond might not be coincidental.
According to a new report from the well-known German magazine, the aerodynamics genius has gradually distanced himself from Ferrari, preferring a “local” team, meaning in the United Kingdom. Negotiations with Maranello reportedly fell through, as Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport had reported, due to the high demands of the British engineer.
Adrian Newey wanted at least 20 key technicians or figures with him, a plan that Ferrari considered “unrealistic.”
F1 Insider reveals that the technician has asked for more time, at least until after the Formula 1 summer break (thus, the end of August). “The cult brand of James Bond, Aston Martin, is currently the favorite to hire the 65-year-old world champion engineer, but Ferrari is not yet completely out of the game, despite the negative news from some Italian media,” they write.
However, many points are in favor of Aston Martin. Jokes about 007 aside, Newey sees England as the center of his life. Furthermore, the success of the automotive company is an additional incentive to join its F1 team.
Lawrence Stroll, being a good entrepreneur, does not hold back when it comes to making investments. According to the German magazine, the Canadian billionaire is willing to spend 100 million over four years to convince Adrian Newey to come to Aston Martin.

For F1 Insider, this point is important because the technician would find himself “in a very high position of what happens at Ferrari.” In Maranello, they conclude, “the Scuderia is the protagonist. No driver, and certainly no technician [should be put in the foreground].”
